Year 4 Term 3 Week 1 Blog

Dear Parents,

Welcome back to our last term of the 2018/2019 school year. I hope all of you had a wonderful holiday. We are looking forward to having another successful term.

I want to thank Ms. Emmi and Ms. Keb for doing a wonderful job this week covering our Year 4 class while I was out on Paternal Leave for my daughter this week.

In Maths class the students were learning about how to track data and translate that information into different types of pie, bar charts and graphs. In addition, the students worked on how to read and design different styles of graphs and charts to present statistical data that they have collected.

In UOI class our students have been sharing their prior knowledge through provocation activities about signs and symbols that are being used around the world. The students are learning that these signs and symbols are being used globally as a form of communication and safety. In this unit the students will be focusing on developing their own unique signs and symbols that they can use to help communicate messages to society. Ms. Emmi and Ms. Keb brought different forms of symbols and religious objects in to share with the students and help build their inquiry thinking skills to begin this unit.

In English class Ms. Emmi read "The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore" by William Joyce. The students discussed the main ideas of the story, the setting and characters that were present in the story. The students also worked on their spelling words and how to use these words correctly in sentences.

Here is a photo of my daughter Catherine Grace Abbadessa that I would like to share with all of you.
