Year 3 / 4 Week 4 Blog

This week in Year 3 & 4 during UOI class the students continued learning about the Human Body Systems. The system that the students focused on this week was the Muscular System. The students learned about the three different types of muscles that we have in our body (Cardiac, Skeletal and Smooth). They learned about the different functions of each type of muscle and that some muscles have voluntary and involuntary movements.  The students also took part in an exercise activity on the court to teach them about different forms of exercise such as meditation and physical exercise. The students competed in different football matches and a basketball match. Throughout these activities the students were taught about the different body systems that were being used during their participation.

On Friday, 21st of September we will have one of the student's parent from Grade 5 come to our class to do a presentation on the body systems and their functions. He is a licensed doctor and will add a great deal of knowledge to what the students have already learned about the body systems in class.

In English Class the students worked on Nouns this week and using nouns in proper sentence structure. They have learned about the difference between common and proper nouns. The students were introduced to their new spelling words and words of the week. The students wrote their own stories titled "The Candy Store". In their stories they had to underline all nouns that they have used within their stories and label if the noun was common or proper.

There have been many changes to the English groups for next week. After the results from the past 2 Spelling assessments I have shifted many students into different groups according to these results. In addition, I will be adding additional word for each group to focus on for the spelling assessments going forward. (Purple Group: 15 Words,  Green Group: 10 Words, and Blue Group: 7 Words)

In Maths this week some students were switched into new colour groups. Students were introduced to a new topic of Mental Maths.  Each group took part in different activities this week. Students focused on addition and subtraction of single and double digit numbers. Next week we will begin to work on recognising,  naming and building 3-D Shapes and 2-D Shapes.
