Year 4 Term 2 Week 8 Blog

In English class we began to work with the Year 2 class to take part in a shared reading activity. We will be visiting the Year 2 classroom every other Tuesday during 4th period. Our Year 4 class will be reading in small groups to the Year 2 students and discussing the stories they have read to them. In our Year 4 classroom the students took part in read aloud activities and writing activities based on levelled readers.

In UOI class the students created posters which illustrate the difference between a clean living environment versus a polluted living environment. The students have begun to brainstorm how they will put their final projects together for this unit and what important information they would like to learn about and research.

In Maths class the students have been learning about calculating money denominations related to the currency that is used in the UK. The student have learned what the different coins and bills look like and what values they each hold. They also learned how many pence are in each pound. In order to build additional calculation and reading fluency skills I have been incorporating more word problems in our Maths lessons.

As part of becoming more involved with the learning process in other homerooms we visited Ms. Cynthia's Year 6/7 classroom to learn about their UOI that they have worked on. The students were able to learned about different cultures and governments around the world and how they function. The students learned a lot from this visit to Year 6/7.
