Y-4 Week 9

This week I was able to purchase some Thai style floor mats for the classroom library/reading area. The students really love having a comfortable place to sit down and read or work on assignments.

UOI

UOI class this week was full of excitement and learning! Students worked really hard on their final project. The posters they are putting together have many interesting pieces of information about the various world religions. The students can't wait to show off what they have learned!

Thai

Assembly

Mr. John Kelly invited us into his classroom for the weekly assembly on Thursday. The focus of this assembly was staying safe from sexual abuse. Students learned the PANTS rule which states the
following:
  • P-rivates are private
  • A-lways remember your body belongs to you
  • N-o means no
  • T-alk about secrets that upset you
  • S-peak up, someone can help

In maths class this week students continued to practice multiplication and subtraction with regrouping. We also dove into some inquiry maths investigations. Inquiry maths is a model of teaching that encourages students to regulate their own activity while exploring a mathematical statement called a prompt. In Inquiry maths, students take responsibility for directing the lesson with the teacher acting as the arbiter of legitimate mathematical activity.

Students had a wonderful time visiting the Muslim Mosque in Udon Thani on Wednesday. The photo above shows Mr. Seth presenting a small donation to the Imam of the Mosque. The Imam and his wife were very gracious and lovely hosts, and the students behaved very respectfully as well.  It was a truly great field trip!
