English
This week we practiced our reading compression by reading aloud short stories and then answering questions about the stories. The comprehension questions had students recalling details about characters, settings, and events. Students also had the opportunity to draw inferences around characters thoughts and feelings. We are continuing to focus on our writing including using full paragraphs, using correct punctuation, and practicing good handwriting.
Science
Students were introduced to sound and how the energy from sound moves through the air and through objects. We were able to experiment with how sound moves through objects by performing a few simple experiments. Students learned that sound travels faster and farther through metal objects then it does trough the air. A simple experiment we did involved putting our ears up to the metal railing on the stairs and tapping on the rail from far away. It was a lot of fun to discover that we could hear the tapping sound from far away.
UOI
Next Monday (25th) is our field trip! Students will be on field trip for the whole day. We will arrive back at UDIS at 14:30. The purpose of this field trip is to give students the opportunity to use advertising and media they created to target people in their community in order to help them think about the plastic pollution problem and possibly change their habits regarding plastic use as well. The learner will demonstrate the ability to be communicators by sharing their new knowledge they acquired through inquiry and research. The learner will demonstrate their ability to be risk takers by speaking to people in the community. The learner will demonstrate their ability to be knowledgeable when they recall and communicate statistics, facts, and solutions regarding plastic pollution.
