Year 4 Term1 Week 13

Loy Krathong 2019

What a great assembly Mr. Golf and his team put together for us on Monday! The year 4 students did a wonderful job presenting their information about the Loy Krathong holiday. We got to learn about why using plastic to make Krathongs is not good for the environment and also make our own Krathongs out of bread instead of plastic. The students had a blast floating their creations on the beautiful river running through the court. Happy Loy Krathong everyone!

Maths

This week in Maths, students took their assessment on numbers and place value. I was very pleased with the results of their learning in this unit. We also worked with fractions by making our own fraction tables. I want students to understand that a fraction is a part of a whole. Students will continue to work on fractions next week by examining how to identify equivalent fractions and how to add and subtract fractions.

                                                                                UOI

The Unit of Inquiry currently being undertaken focuses on students using art to express themselves in order to help others think about how they can help change the world. We had a wonderful experience this week learning about advertising, media, and propaganda. We examined different examples of advertising and discussed what made them effective or not effective.  Students also got the opportunity to design their own advertisement posters.

Our UOI field trip is fast approaching on Monday, November 25th. Students have been designing their information posters on Canva.com. The aim of this OUI is to use art to create messages that help people in our community understand the problem of plastic pollution and hopefully change the way in which they use plastics. Students will be presenting their learning by setting up an informational booth displaying their posters at  Ban Haui Market and Central Plaza in order to communicate with people in our community about the plastic pollution issue. Students are very excited about sharing their knowledge!
