Year4 Term 1 Week12

Maths: In maths this week, students have been working on solving two step word problems that involve addition and subtraction. We have also been working on our multiplication tables with timed assessments.Memorizing our multiplication tables will be a focus throughout the school year. Finally, year four students were introduced to statistics and graphs. We had a lot of fun going into the year seven and year three classes to gather data on favorite ice creamflavors and displaying the data in the form of bar graphs.

English:
Students have continued to work on writing paragraphs. We have also started working on fronted adverbials in our sentence writing. For example, With a worried look on his face, Tom waited outside his teacher’s office. Using fronted adverbials in our writing helps add detail and brings our writing to life!

UOI: The Unit of Inquiry currently being undertaken focuses on studentsusing art to express themselves in order to help others think about the world and their behaviour in a different light. The aim of this UOI is to create artfulmessages that examine the environmental impacts of local and global plastic use. Our class plans to use plastic trash to produce reusable shopping bags for people in our community while also using art displays that educate people about the dangers of single use plastics. Our students are very much engaged and fully committed to making sure they change the world by changing how people think about and ultimately use plastic in their daily lives.
