The current UOI we are finishing with looks at how communities celebrate important events that are connected to their history, beliefs, and culture. This central idea has allowed students to learn more about various celebrations from around the world. Leaners researched several celebrations and holidays and then shared their findings while planning a party that allowed us to celebrate the traditions, food. and culture of that event. It has been very interesting and fun to learn about so many different celebrations!
This past Thursday assembly featured our year 4 leaners and covered the topic of building independence. Students were able to record a video that allowed them to share their own personal experiences regarding how they have gained more independence.
A related concept to our UOI central idea involves citizenship. Building on that idea of being a good citizen, students were able to visit with the Chief of Police at the Udon Thani Police Station. He was very kind and answered all the questions the students asked him. We leaned about how to not break the law, do drugs, and drink too much. We even got to see the jail and learn about the consequences of not being a good citizen.
Our next UOI will focus on changes in the Earth and its atmosphere having impacts on the way people live. We are going to look at how the earth constantly changes through natural process and how humans cause changes also.
