Maths
This week in maths class students perfected their understanding of 2D geometric shapes such as polygons. Students understand that a polygon is any closed shape with strait sides. Students worked hard to identify triangles, quadrilaterals, pentagons, hexagons, heptagons, octagons, nonagons, and decagons. Our test is on Monday and I think everyone is going to do great!
Next week we will be learning about symmetry in various 2d shapes and 3d objects.
English
This week in English class students worked to further their understanding of the writing process. It is important for year 4 students to know how to organize their writing using paragraphs as well as revising their work to produce a quality piece.
Next week students will continue to work on paragraph writing and revising. We will also be working on producing a five paragraph personal narrative.
UOI
Students have really enjoyed this current unit of inquiry regarding signs and symbols. So far we have made signs and symbols to put around our homes. We have made model towns and organized them with signs and symbols. We even learned the American and British sign language alphabets! It is important for students to learn how people and societies organize themselves with signs and symbols.
Next week we will be finishing up our signs and symbols unit with a final project where students will create their own symbol that reflects who they are. Students will also work with their parents to include 10 or more photos to place around their created symbol. This project will be completed using the program Canva.com.
